Carpet Roles UK are delighted to be assisting our clients, a leading player in the Contract Flooring and Interiors market in the North East in their search for a Head of Contract Flooring to lead and shape the future of the Soft Flooring Division of a Successful group of companies.

Opportunities like this do not occur very often, this opportunity has arisen due to a retirement of a senior director and a restructure within the business and we are seeking an external candidate to take the reins and lead our clients contract flooring division into the future.

Our Clients are seeking an experienced and knowledgeable leader to head up their contract flooring division. This position is a senior role within the company and will have full autonomy over the day to day running of the division and future strategic direction.

The Company:

Our Clients are based near Newcastle and cover the North East of England, They specialise in contract and commercial flooring of all aspects. Their specialist teams supply and install flooring solutions across multiple sectors, including new build homes, retail, hospitality, student accommodation, offices, care homes and other commercial projects.

The services they offer include floor preparation, damp-proofing, Screeding, soundproofing, LVT, sheet vinyl, safety flooring, carpet tiles, carpets, laminate, engineered wood, entrance matting, stair nosing’s and all types of trims.

Their Blue-Chip clients include National house builders, construction companies, independent developers, stately homes, restaurant and bar owners as well as public sector.

The Role:
  • Manage and lead a motivated team to deliver exceptional results, first class customer service and excel in transferring knowledge and developing skills across the division.
  • Lead and development the companies sub-contractor fitting teams, to exceed quality, throughput and knowledge.
  • Maintain relationships with their current clients, developing these into stronger partnerships, building repour and gaining additional business.
  • Seek new opportunities for business, with new clients in the same field, bringing experience gained from the companies current partnerships.
  • Seek new opportunities outside of their current client base, using the skills and resource currently within the business.
  • Maintain relationships with suppliers, ensuring these continue to grow and develop into strong partnerships.
  • Specific focus on costs, sales, margins and wastage to ensure the business delivers a strong P&L performance.
  • Focus on cash flow to ensure consistent working capital is maintained throughout the year.
  • Lead health and safety ensuring compliance and adherence are maintained, across the business and their client sites
  • Manage direct labour resources and supply chain costs, with a view to identifying areas to increase productivity and maximise efficiencies.
  • Lead, drive and maintain a positive culture within the business, ourclients partner relationships and relationships with their supply chain. Ensure this culture is adopted and demonstrated by their staff, in a professional approach in communications with all clients, suppliers and third parties.
  • Deliver and monitor agreed KPI’s across the business, as stakeholders they will expect accurate up to date information and reports on the performance of the business in all areas.
  • Motivate, manage and lead a team, with regular performance reviews, coaching, training to ensure skills across the business meet/exceed the business requirements to excel.
  • As this role is all about leadership, the success of this position is how you will develop the current team and bring in new team members where additional skills are required. We are seeking an individual that can multitask, manage and lead individuals, manage and direct clients and deliver a return on investment.
The Person:
  • You will need to have extensive experience either within the construction industry or commercial flooring, ideally with a comprehensive knowledge of commercial and contract flooring, sub floors, project management, people management and demonstrate problem solving skills.
  • This position is not a 9-5 role, or a desk bound job, you will need to lead by example and be the figurehead at the forefront of the division.
  • This position will require skills to be able to multitask, act on short notice, solve problems, complete tenders, forecast revenue, meet a high level with clients and suppliers.
  • You will need to be computer literate, able to communicate verbally and in written format, organised and a proactive planner.
  • This position requires a proactive individual, one that plans for eventualities rather than waits for them to happen.
  • You will be an expert at building and maintaining relationships, our clients business has been built on maintaining relationships with their clients and suppliers.
  • You will need to have the ability to learn and absorb information of various nature, as knowledge is key with in this role.
  • You will need to be a detailed person, especially when negotiating new contracts with clients, suppliers and sub-contractors.
  • Sales and marketing play a big part of this role, and your ability to ensure your team are maximising every opportunity and delivering market leading performance is paramount.
  • You will need to have energy and lots of it to succeed in this role.
Your Background:
  • You currently work within flooring, construction, supply chain or building surveying, in a management / leadership role.
  • You are looking for a new challenge or increase in position and personal responsibilities,  and can clearly demonstrate success in your current role.
  • You could be a flooring business owner looking to join a large company as a natural leader.
  • You could be a manager within the flooring supply chain, looking to join a business on the other side of the fence.
